Find Me Friday: Joran & Kelan!

PD: RR’s logo states ‘Reece’s Rainbow’ across center, w/ signature 3 diagonal brush strokes in blue, pink, & green. Above & below in a circle are the words ‘Special needs adoption support’.

In this series, each Friday, I want to share a different child or children with you who is available for adoption and listed through the adoption advocacy website Reece’s Rainbow. All the kids who are listed on RR from Sarah’s Covenant Homes, India, the focus of my previous posts, have been posted about, so now I am focusing on a few kids or a sibling group listed on the site each Friday going forward. When more SCH kids are listed, I’ll continue to feature them!

Please note that the names used on RR are usually not the childrens’ real names, and their real names will only be shared with seriously interested families in order to protect their identity.

Today’s first featured ‘Find Me Friday’ kid is: Joran! He was born in 2004, lives in an unspecified country most likely in Eastern Europe, and is waiting for his family to find him. He is available to single moms, large families, and older parents. Joran is at risk of aging out! He has been listed since May 2017.

Because we only have this child’s file for a short time, he will not be able to receive donations until a family is found for him.

I am eligible for an Older Child Grant! Grant funding is dependent on a completed application and available funds. For more information, visit: Other Angels Older Child Grant

Joran’s Medical History

Joran was born with infantile cerebral palsy in the form of spastic quadriparesis. He also has epilepsy and a severe developmental delay. His motor skills are severely impaired, and he cannot walk alone without supporting equipment. He is extremely sensitive to sounds and touch.

Other Information About Joran

Joran is a happy, loving young boy. When he needs attention, or is hungry, he will cry. He shows emotions in different ways, but is very calm and positive. Joran enjoys listening to music, watching cartoons, listening to stories, and looking at pictures. He is very dependent on adults for everyday needs.

Today’s second featured ‘Find Me Friday’ kid is: Kelan! He was born in 2004, lives in an Eastern European country, and is waiting for his family to find him. He’s available to single moms, older parents, and large families. He’s been listed since April 2017.

Kelan’s Medical History

Kelan has been diagnosed with the following disabilities: epilepsy partialis with grand mal seizures; brain edema; an attachment disorder; nocturnal enuresis; and an unspecified learning disability.

Don’t underestimate Kelan due to his diagnoses! With the right supports, children can thrive in families, and every child deserves one of their very own. This includes kids from difficult backgrounds! Attachment disorders can often cause acting-out behaviors, and when a child is able to attach, some of these behaviors change or become milder. There’s no telling what Kelan’s potential in a family could be!

Kelan’s Education

Kelan quickly loses interest in the learning process at school and doesn’t follow rules. It is important for him to receive approval from adults (including the teachers at school), but he does not always comply with requirements. Kelan’s attention is lacking. He can concentrate on routine tasks for short periods of time; however, his memory is not accurate and his thinking process is slow. Although his vocabulary needs improvement, he understands the meaning of words used in everyday life. He does not have good communication skills, but can express his emotions. He often violates others’ personal space. His self-evaluation of himself wavers, as sometimes it is too high and other times too low. He cannot maintain friendships.

Other Information About Kelan

Kelan was placed in a baby house shortly after birth, and is currently residing in a group home. Kelan is a happy and cheerful child! He is very emotional. He is affectionate and seeks care from adults. He is not shy and does not feel guilt. He participates in culinary clubs and likes to play with the children from the group home. He wants to play with other children, but often teases them by taking their possessions and insulting them, which leads to conflicts. He insults the other children, throws things, and uses bad words. After a while, he calms down. He easily gets upset. Sometimes, he overreacts by crying or laughing.  He likes to help with household chores – he helps cook, clean, and iron. He also likes physical activities: soccer, volleyball, badminton, and riding bikes.
