In this series, each Friday, I want to share a different child with you who is available for adoption and listed through the adoption advocacy website Reece’s Rainbow. All the kids who are listed on RR from Sarah’s Covenant Homes, India, the focus of my previous posts, have been posted about, so now I am focusing on a few kids or a sibling group listed on the site each Friday going forward. When more SCH kids are listed, I’ll continue to feature them!
Please note that the names used on RR are usually not the childrens’ real names, and their real names will only be shared with seriously interested families in order to protect their identity.
Today’s first featured ‘Find Me Friday’ kid is: Jonah! He was born in 2003, lives in a Latin American country, and is waiting for his family to find him. He is eligible to be adopted by married couples and single moms!
Just over $1,242 has been donated towards the cost of my adoption! You can give as well, by donating on my Reece’s Rainbow profile. I also have a matching grant of $150! When my grant reaches $1,387, I’ll receive an additional $150!
PD: Jonah sits in his positioning chair, which is covered w/ a blanket, wearing a green sweater & a gigantic smile! Jonah appears to be of African descent, & has a beautiful medium to deep complexion, deep, expressive brown eyes, & black hair cropped short.
Jonah’s Medical History
Jonah’s diagnosis is not shared directly on his RR page, but there is information to point to the possibility of cerebral palsy, including high tone. Since he has very high tone, he is on medication, as well as attending therapy multiple times a week for stretching, massage, exercises, and time in the stander. He currently uses a special tomato chair for sitting, as well as his wheelchair when needing to be mobile.
Jonah has some breathing issues and breathes very loudly, but does not regularly use anything extra to help him breathe. Jonah has struggled with gaining weight his whole life, but lately has been doing better. In December 2017, he had g-tube surgery, and in December 2018 had a nissen to help prevent him from vomiting. He is unable to tolerate large amounts of food at a time, so is continuously fed medical formula with a feeding pump through his g-tube. Now that he has a nissen, he is able to keep more inside rather than vomiting.
Jonah has been going to preschool just over a year, and has been working on communicating and making choices. He can use a ‘yes/no’ board, or make choices between two things by touching the item or card, or by looking in the direction of what he wants. He is learning to read, like most five-and-a-half year olds.
Other Information About Jonah
Jonah is a joy to be around. His smile and laughter lights up the room, especially when he really gets going. He loves to cuddle, get kisses, and be included in what is going on around him. Jonah can hold his head up, but isn’t steady, and will often fall backwards or forwards. He can recover from this on his own, but often needs encouragement and occasionally a little help. Jonah can roll from front to back, or from side to back or front, but cannot yet turn 360 degrees without help. He can also scoot around a little, whether on his back or stomach. On his stomach, he can lift his head to look around, but does not do so for long periods. Jonah needs help keeping his arms in position for supporting his upper body on his elbows. He cannot yet fully sit on his own, but will do most of the work in a sitting position. Jonah can hold things in his hands, but does not hold them long.
Jonah needs a family who can advocate for his care and love him fiercely. He needs access to more doctors than are available in-country, to address and test some needs which cannot be done in his current placement.
PD: Jonah sits in his blanket-covered chair, wearing a blue plaid button-down. He has a big smile & is missing most of his front teeth! The wood plank wall behind him is painted blue, white, & green.
Today’s second featured ‘Find Me Friday’ kid is: Sasha! She was born in 2011, lives in a Latin American country, and is waiting for her family to find her. She is eligible to be adopted by married couples and single moms!
$1,158.50 has been donated towards the cost of my adoption! You can give as well, by donating on my Reece’s Rainbow profile. I also have a matching grant of $200! When my grant reaches $1,298, I’ll receive an additional $200!
PD: Sasha sits in front of a colourful wall, wearing a pink striped top w/ rhinestones on it. She appears to be of African descent & has beautiful, a deep skin tone, curly, short, textured hair, & huge brown eyes.
Sasha’s Medical History
Sasha is D/deaf. She has also been diagnosed with developmental delays, a heart condition (VSD) which appears to be correcting itself, and a history of seizures.
Her body has learned to live with the hole in her heart well, she has been taken off medication, and seems to be doing well so far. She has seen doctors about surgery, but none has been needed. She takes medication for seizures, and under the current combination has not a had one.
Sasha’s communication is limited, since she is D/deaf and has yet to learn sign language. She understands some signs, such as “sit” and “no”, but has yet to repeat signs such as “more” and “food.” Sasha continues to work on those, both in her foster home and with her teacher at school, but it has been very slow progress.
Other Information About Sasha
Sasha is a spunky, free-spirited 8-year-old. She is very curious about her surroundings, constantly walking around, picking things up to examine, play with, or chew on. She loves to interact when you mimic things she does, as well as being tickled. She laughs and has a fun sparkle in her eye. She also loves watching and interacting with herself in the mirror.
PD: Sasha stands in front of twinkling lights, wearing a sparkly green velvet Christmas dress w/ fur trim around the cuffs & a wide, white ribbon around her waist. She has a matching green & white flower headband, and her hair is pulled back in a cute puff. She smiles shyly at the camera.
