Update August 2019:

*Josie is home with her forever family!

In this series, each Friday, I want to share a different child with you who is available for adoption and lives at Sarah’s Covenant Homes (SCH), India.

While I do have a running list of all the kids who live at SCH and are listed with the adoption advocacy website Reece’s Rainbow, I’d like to expand on these excerpts and give each child their own post.

Today’s featured ‘Find Me Friday’ kid is: *Josie! *Josie is a 3-year-old girl who lives at Anchor Home and is waiting for her family to find her.

Medical about *Josie

*Josie has been diagnosed with spina bifida and hydrocephalus. She had a VP shunt placed, and an endoscopic third ventriculostomy (EVT) was completed in July 2018. She has a mild form of bilateral clubfoot, which has made great progress with serial casting and daily AFO usage. The orthopedist does not believe surgical intervention will be required.

She is healthy and thriving since coming to SCH, but when she arrived, she was severely malnourished, suffering from complications caused by her spina bifida, and had complications from a recent VP shunt surgery for hydrocephalus. After getting a new VP shunt placed, she is a bright, joyful baby who loves attention!

*Josie receives physical therapy 4x/week, where she works on standing independently, walking with a walker, and building core strength. *Josie has diminished feeling below her knees, but has been making good progress in physical therapy. She is able to pull to stand and often does so throughout the day without prompting. She is making progress walking with the assistance of a walker and is able to navigate her current home without difficulty. She goes up and down stairs by crawling/scooting and using her upper body strength.

*Josie’s education

*Josie attends an on-site English preschool, where she is working on improving her fine motor skills. She can identify colors, count to 10, and sing both Telugu and English songs. She plays well with other children and has appropriate attachment with her adult caregiver. She is learning her ABCs, numbers, and colors, as well as working on full English sentences – she is currently speaking in 3-5 word sentences, primarily in English, though she does understand her Telugu-speaking caregiver.

Other information About *Josie

*Josie is a beautiful baby girl who was born in 2015 and was listed on RR in November 2018!

She is available to be adopted by single moms! She is a sweet child who enjoys playing with toys and other children.  *Josie currently crawls and scoots on her bottom to get around. As stated in the medical section, her walking with a mobility aid is improving through physical therapy. *Josie is a happy child who loves to laugh and smile! She is often referred to as “Oye Papa” (aka “hey baby” in Telugu). She has a lot of sass and usually doesn’t take NO for an answer, but how could anyone say no to her sweet smile? She has the cutest little giggle and is always making her presence known to anyone nearby. She is loved deeply by her Anchor Gold family.  Her agency has videos available of her!

*Josie is fully sponsored, so does not need any additional funds at this time!

You can read more of what I’ve written about *Josie here.

**Please note: Many other children at SCH are also available for adoption, and you can find a list at the top of this blog under the drop down menu ‘Adoption Advocacy’ using the drop-down option ‘Waiting Children’. If you are from the US, you could adopt any eligible waiting child under the age of 16 (up to age 18 in some places outside the US – check with your local government to learn more.)

For more information regarding adoption from India in general, you can visit this site. It is the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) of the Ministry of Women & Child Development.

An important part of SCH’s work is YOU! If you cannot afford to, or are not in a position to adopt, there are many other ways to ensure SCH can continue to offer such a high level of care and amazing quality of life to these children. SCH relies on donations to keep running. Donation opportunities include child sponsorship at any cost per month, from as low as $25/month. Sponsorship usually costs between $300 and $400 per child, depending on complexity of needs and which city they live in (Ongole or Hyderabad).

You can sponsor any child who needs additional funding at SCH by using the resources found here. Use these resources to get involved in other ways, such as becoming an advocate or volunteering. You can also become a medical sponsor (ideal for large groups or organizations who wish to support SCH) and donate toward monthly emergency medical expenses; or an educational sponsor and donate toward a specific on-site school. Learn about other ways to give charitably to SCH here, and check back often for additional opportunities.

*A note about names: SCH uses online nicknames for the children in order to protect their identity, per Indian government guidelines which state that children in care may not have identifying photos of them on the internet, as well as no identifying information such as birth name, place of origin, etc. No full-face photos will be posted.
