Tuesday’s Children Adoption Spotlight: Sibling Pairs! Pt I

Updated 2020:

Unfortunately, Simeon and Finn’s elder siblings have aged out of international adoption before a family was found. I’m going to leave their listings here because they still need to be seen!

This is going to be the first post in a short series of reference posts regarding the adoption of sibling sets! I will use the website Reece’s Rainbow as my reference, as this site has a list of children available for adoption who are part of sibling sets who should be kept together unless otherwise noted. I’ve paraphrased & clarified some of the entries to make them more easily-readable, as sometimes the translations can make the wording confusing.

Note the names given are most likely not the childrens’ real names, as online pseudonyms are used most of the time to protect their privacy.

The first & second posts will focus on sibling pairs (2 children who must be adopted together).

The first siblings you should meet are Daniel & Donald! They are waiting in Eastern Europe. They could be adopted separately, but keeping kids together should always be the ultimate goal! There are no photos of Daniel & Donald, but they could probably be requested for interested families through RR.

The brothers were born in 2012 & 2013, respectively. Both boys appear to have significant medical needs, but don’t let this get in the way of becoming their family! It is impossible to say how a child will progress when they come home from institutionalized care. They need the love and care of a family who can provide them with the proper supports and treatment, if needed. I’m sure they would thrive! Sometimes, it can appear a child has a laundry-list of disabilities or medical needs, but you never know they may change with proper love & care!

The elder brother has blue eyes & light brown hair. He has been diagnosed with the following: effects of neonatal central nervous system hypoxia (from what I can understand, this means he was deprived of oxygen at birth) in a state of diffuse muscle hypotonic syndrome (hypotonia -weak muscles/’floppy baby syndrome’) & psychomotor retardation. He has an astigmatism (may benefit from glasses), hypermetropia, nystagmus (‘shaky’ eyes), & esotropia (strabismus), as well as a language development delay.

He crawls & can walk if held by both hands. He stands by holding onto something. He makes longer eye contact with adults, plays with toys, & responds to his name. His appetite is good; he does not try to eat with a spoon, so needs to be fed. He sleeps well, but sometimes rocks before falling asleep. Sometimes, has a tendency to rock & bang his head against the floor.

The younger brother has blue eyes & light brown hair. He has been diagnosed with nystagmus (horizontal/left-to-right ‘shaking’ of the eyes); astigmatism, mixtus; esotropia (strabismus); psychomotor development delay; speech development delay; & muscle tone imbalance.

He can crawl, but does not eat independently & needs to be fed. He is emotionally unstable, often cries, plays alone, & likes musical toys.

Meet Hadden & Hadley! They are in Eastern Europe & need to be adopted together, as they are twins! They are available to older parents as well as large families.

PD: In the 2 photos above, both boys have light blonde hair & brown eyes. The boy in the top photo smiles slightly, looking at the camera wearing a light blue shirt; the boy in the bottom photo looks off-camera, wearing a dark blue polo shirt.

Hadden & Hadley are twin brothers who are hard of hearing, but not D/deaf. There is no other information given, except they were born in 2009 & have been listed since 2014. Based on this information, I believe the photos are outdated, so the boys probably look older than they appear here! I wish we had more info on them! They are very handsome fellows who I’m sure could learn ASL in a family who is also D/deaf or hard-of-hearing or has experience parenting hard of hearing children.

Update from someone who knows them very well:

“We have known [the boys] for over 4 years and visited their orphanage over 20 times. They have autism and are non-verbal at this time. They were just transferred to an adult institution right after their 7th birthday. The boys are one-to-one and arms length for bolting and mouthing; both at this time are not toilet trained and are on medication to assist with hyperactivity and self injurious behaviors. Both boys are extraordinarily special to me, however, they must go to a family prepared for all of their needs.  They are not deaf.”

Meet Simeon! He lives in an Eastern European country. Only married couples will be accepted; larger families & older parents are welcome. Simeon’s sister, Charlotte, born in 2002, has unfortunately aged out of international adoption.

Simeon was born in October 2007. He is listed as significantly delayed, & has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. He is describe as a beautiful child of Roma heritage with dark hair & big, brown eyes. At the time of his listing, the agency was trying to get more information on his social history. Simeon is a fraternal twin, but she has been adopted. Simeon is described as mostly non-verbal & is not able to walk independently at this time. There seems to be so much potential for him in a family environment! He is already an outcast because of his darker skin, & will be left institutionalized–likely bedridden—if not adopted.

From a family who visited with him in 2011:

“Simeon is barely responsive to stimuli, but I believe that could change if he received regular, loving attention. I didn’t observe any of the orphanage workers spending much time interacting with him. There were times I was able to get him to smile & grip my hand. After a few days, he was even able to clap! But most of the time, he is staring off in any direction & seems completely unable to control most of his movements. He was always either lying down or propped up in a sitting position. I never heard him speak. I also never heard him cry or fuss. Overall, a very calm child.”

Meet sisters Audrey & Anna! They live in a Latin American country. They are adoptable by single moms, single dads, & large families. They need to be kept together! They have a strong bond (and I think they look like twins!).

We are eligible for an Older Child Grant dependent on a completed application and available funds. For more information, visit: Other Angels Older Child Grant

Audrey is 8 & Anna is 10. They are sisters who express a lot of love & care for one another. They wish to be adopted together, & hope to find a forever family. Anna & Audrey are described as being diagnosed with microcephaly, mild cognitive delay, & an anxiety & behavior disorder, but these are not attributed to a certain girl in particular. It’s possible both have these diagnoses, but I’m sure interested families could learn more than the small amount of info given if they inquired with RR!

Meet Finn! He lives in an Eastern European country & is available to older parents & large families. Older brother, Sawyer, born in 2002, unfortunately aged out of international adoption and is no longer available. Very little information is included on Finn’s RR page, but more is surely available through his agency or RR.

Finn was born in March 2005. He has been diagnosed with a congenital cleft palate (unclear whether this has been treated), an inguinal hernia, a scrotocele, & some developmental delays.

Meet Sam & Sue! They are located in Eastern Europe. There are no photos of the siblings to protect their privacy. They are available to single moms. They could potentially be separated, but as I’ve stated, the point of this post is to try to keep siblings together! These kids need lots of love & care that only a family can provide!

Sam was born in 2005. He has light blue eyes & light brown hair; he is diagnosed with autism with behavioral disorders & a speech deficiency.

He likes to play with Legos; he’s able to concentrate for a long time & make beautiful buildings. He is able to find activities for himself. He is rather peaceful, preferring to play alone, as he finds it difficult to make friends with other children. He likes to watch cartoons, spend time outside, & is able to help adults with some chores. He attends a specialized boarding school where his grades are average. He has marked speech, cognitive, & emotional disorders, & difficulty adapting to new surroundings. His relationship with his sister is not very cordial. He often has a course of medical treatment & periodically stays in a psycho-neurological hospital.

Sue was born in late 2006. She has light blue eyes & light brown hair; she is diagnosed with mild mental retardation with significant impairment of behavior, requiring attention or treatment & a language developmental delay.

She likes to play with dolls, wheeling them around in a toy pushchair. She likes to be the center of attention; she tries to participate in other activities, but her actions are not always productive. She likes to watch cartoons sometimes, & to spend time outside. She is not able to concentrate for long. She attends a specialized boarding school. She has marked cognitive & emotional disorders, including difficulty adapting to new surroundings. She often has a course of medical treatment & periodically stays in a psycho-neurological hospital.

Meet brothers Auggie & Brody! They live in an Eastern European country. They should most-definitely be kept together, if at all possible! The boys are available to large families. More photos are most definitely available through RR or their agency!

PD: Auggie smiles a sweet, closed-lip smile. He has sandy blonde hair & blue eyes, wearing a red shirt.

Auggie, the elder brother, was born in March 2005. He has been diagnosed with rough mental delay, partial atrophy of his optic nerves, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, & Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS).

From someone who met Brody in 2011 & Auggie in 2012:

Brody & Auggie are sweet little boys who appear to have some sort of genetic disorder that causes developmental delays & self-harming behaviors. They are not aggressive towards others, only towards themselves, & these behaviors can be halted temporarily by picking either boy up & spinning him around. The boys are currently living in separate orphanages. I pray a family will reunite these brothers together in one family, where they can receive all the love & attention they need to meet their full potential!

Auggie was in a laying room for over a year, but after only 3 months of physical therapy is now sitting independently & working on learning to stand. Both boys have wonderful, heart-stealing smiles. Auggie loves things that crinkle or light up, slinkies, music, & TV. He is more interactive than Brody, & appears to lift his arms up to indicate he would like to be held. This is the only form of communication I observed from either boy.

Brody is able to walk, & can drink from a cup without help. He is not quite able to feed himself, but is willing to try. He appears to be in his own world much of the time, & loves things that crinkle or light up, & things shaped like sticks, as well as hands, gloves, feet & socks. He shows numerous signs of autism, which may or may not be environmental.

Stay tuned next Tuesday to meet some more sibling pairs! And don’t forget to check out Find Me Friday, every Friday of each week!
