*Georgie is totally functionally blind. It has been confirmed that he has no light perception and Leber’s (Leber hereditary optic neuropathy) is suspected. *Georgie can now crawl, walk independently, climb up and down stairs with a railing, and balance on a balance board. He self-feeds. He is good at predicting parts of a routine. His language, both receptive and expressive, is growing steadily, and he can respond to various commands in English, such as: “Come”, “Clap”, “Spin”, and “Touch your head”. He will follow sounds and voices, and will seek them out when it’s a preferred person/object.

He is showing an increased ability to self-entertain, and will seek out toys in his environment. He loves to repeat songs and commonly heard phrases. He likes to interact with others through playing echoing games, and will giggle and laugh when playing. *Georgie has a relaxed, easy-going personality. He also loves to be silly and will find reasons to laugh. Some of his favorite activities are playing in water, swinging, and playing catch. He is social and loves to be held and cuddled!

*Georgie is learning to use a guide cane to navigate his surroundings. I have personally seen photos of him practicing this at a local park with a caregiver, and he seems to be moving right along with this! He was even working on descending shallow stairs at the park using his cane.

Original post:

In this series, each Friday, I want to share a different child with you who is available for adoption and lives at Sarah’s Covenant Homes (SCH), India.

While I do have a running list of all the kids who live at SCH and are listed with the adoption advocacy website Reece’s Rainbow, I’d like to expand on these excerpts and give each child their own post.

This is a second, very special edition of Find Me Friday for today, where I will introduce you to the newest addition to the Courage Home family! So, without further ado, today’s second featured ‘Find Me Friday’ kid is: *Georgie!

*Georgie is a 5-year-old boy who lives at Courage Home and is waiting for his forever family to find him!

*Georgie has a donation grant of over $1,300 to help cover the cost of his adoption!

PD: *Georgie wears an orange, white, & blue plaid collared shirt. His huge grin, as well as the adorable crinkles around his eyes, are visible under the graphic that protects his identity by covering his face!

*Georgie’s Medical History

*Georgie is functionally blind and has very little light perception. At this point, due to the downfalls of institutional life, he has some weak muscles, but is gaining strength. He can pull up to a stand using a surface for support. He does not have any other disabilities.

*Georgie’s Education

Since *Georgie was transferred to his current home in April 2018, and is only 4, he does not attend traditional school. He had experienced neglect and under-stimulation in his previous orphanage, but already, his development is progressing, and we look forward to seeing *Georgie learn and explore the world! He has been doing so well in his transition into this new chapter of life. He attends an on-site school for the blind in his home daily, where he works with his 2 foster mothers and teachers.

He is learning how to scoot around, bear weight, and explore with his hands. He had no experience in his previous home with self-feeding, but already is making great progress and is self-feeding with minimal support. He had no English exposure previously, but in just a month, his English understanding is already developing, and he responds to several commands.

Other Information About *Georgie

*Georgie is rapidly changing and developing. Everyday, we are more captivated by his bubbly, sweet, gentle disposition. *Georgie loves making silly noises, and often vocalizes silly babbles, finds interesting surfaces to tap on, or picks things up and throws them to hear their clatter. *Georgie is very social. He loves to be held and swung around. He sometimes whimpers when he is put down, and communicates non-verbally that he wants to be held. He mimics sounds others make, and often bursts with excited laughter when playing with other adults and children. *Georgie’s foster siblings love to take turns spending time with him, and he has miraculously fit right in at his new home. We are so excited to see him begin to hit the milestones he is already working towards! Let’s watch this little guy thrive!

*Georgie needs $40/month to return to fully sponsored! Sign up to sponsor him here.

**Please note: Many other children at SCH are also available for adoption, and you can find a list at the top of this blog under the drop down menu ‘Adoption Advocacy’ using the drop-down option ‘Waiting Children’. If you are from the US, you could adopt any eligible waiting child under the age of 16 (up to age 18 in some places outside the US – check with your local government to learn more.)

For more information regarding adoption from India in general, you can visit this site. It is the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) of the Ministry of Women & Child Development.

An important part of SCH’s work is YOU! If you cannot afford to, or are not in a position to adopt, there are many other ways to ensure SCH can continue to offer such a high level of care and amazing quality of life to these children. SCH relies on donations to keep running. Donation opportunities include child sponsorship at any cost per month, from as low as $25/month. Sponsorship usually costs between $300 and $400 per child, depending on complexity of needs and which city they live in (Ongole or Hyderabad).

You can sponsor any child who needs additional funding at SCH by using the resources found here. Use these resources to get involved in other ways, such as becoming an advocate or volunteering. You can also become a medical sponsor (ideal for large groups or organizations who wish to support SCH) and donate toward monthly emergency medical expenses; or an educational sponsor and donate toward a specific on-site school. Learn about other ways to give charitably to SCH here, and check back often for additional opportunities.

*A note about names: SCH uses online nicknames for the children in order to protect their identity, per Indian governmental guidelines which state that children in care may not have identifying photos of them on the internet, as well as no identifying information such as birth name, place of origin, etc. No full-face photos will be posted.
