Sponsorship for Carrie & Abby’s Kids: Paula!

Update: *Paula has moved to a new  home, Jubilee home, due to her previous foster mothers transitioning back home from their volunteer stints. Jubilee is home to SCH’s older girls with physical and cognitive disabilities. Continue reading to learn more about *Paula’s past, as well as her present!

*Paula lives in Carrie and Abby’s foster home, with her 11 foster sisters and the ayahs who help take care of so many girls.

This girl is so incredibly strong! And by strong, I mean both physically and in all other matters. *Paula is 13, has cerebral palsy which effects her ability to get around, just received the first customized wheelchair she has ever had in her entire life to help her become more mobile, and is full of exuberant joy. She is gaining independence, and won’t often let her sisters push her around in her chair any more! She is doing it mostly herself. *Paula is able to get in and out of her wheelchair. Before she had one, *Paula crawled to get where she wanted to go, or relied on people to carry her longer distances. She is also undergoing daily physical therapy and hopes to be able to walk independently very soon!

You can read more about *Paula here, at Abby’s blog post dedicated just to her! Read more about *Paula on co-foster mom Carrie’s blog here and here (note: this link will take you directly to all posts about *Paula on the blog. To read the general blog, click here).

*Paula is in need of sponsorship, and she deserves it. Not long ago, *Paula was attending a mainstream private school which did not meet her needs. After switching to vocational school at Jubilee Home, she now knows her ABC’s and numbers up to 20, in English! This makes *Paula bilingual in Telugu and English, and she understands much English that is spoken to her. *Paula loves to sing. Learn more about her school, New Horizons, as well as donate toward operational costs, here.

*Paula’s sponsorship costs $300 in full. At this time, you can pledge a partial sponsorship for as low as $10 per month. As of July 2017, she requires just $85 more per month to be fully sponsored! Sponsorship covers a host of things that help make her life better, by providing necessities she needs to thrive. This includes physical therapy, food, clothing so she can look and feel great, nutritional supplements she may need, wheelchair maintenance and upgrades, and so much more.

As one of *Paula’s sponsors, you’ll receive quarterly updates about her progress, which includes photos! Sign up to sponsor her here!

You can sponsor any child who needs additional funding at SCH by using the resources found here. Use these resources to get involved in other ways, such as becoming an advocate or volunteering. You can also become a medical sponsor (ideal for large groups or organizations who wish to support SCH) and donate toward monthly emergency medical expenses; or an educational sponsor and donate toward a specific on-site school. Learn about other ways to give charitably to SCH here, and check back often for additional opportunities.

Other Ways to Give

As always, if you can’t afford to sponsor a child, there are many other ways to help SCH, including general monetary donations towards special services or other necessities, goods donations in-kind, volunteering in-country, or simply praying, keeping SCH in your thoughts, and helping spread the word about the needs at SCH, including child sponsorship.

Want to Volunteer?

SCH is nearly always looking for volunteers to serve in India and stateside, whether as foster parents, nurses, educators, special needs therapists, correspondence assistants, stateside administration, and more. Do you or your organization have an interest in volunteering for a period of time? Find resources here.

*A note about names: SCH uses online nicknames for the children in order to protect their identity, per Indian governmental guidelines which state that children in care may not have identifying photos of them on the internet, as well as no identifying information such as birth name, place of origin, etc.
