105 in 105, day 69: *Nicky!

PD: A girl stands against a white wall, wearing a traditional Indian sari that is hot pink, blue, & gold w/ paisley accents & sparkly glitter. Her hands are at her sides, wearing blue bangles.

Update 2019:

*Nicky needs $65/month more to be fully sponsored. Donate toward his sponsorship here.

*Nicky now lives at Courage Home Teal. He’s loving being the big brother in the home. While he loves watching his brothers play, by far his favorite thing to do is to look at magazines of cars (red Corvettes are his favorite). He communicates using eye movement and sounds, uses a customized wheelchair to get around, and attends school at home with a tutor.

*Nicky underwent spinal fusion surgery in 2018 for severe scoliosis, which had been previously untreated. This surgery has greatly improved his quality of life, as his scoliosis had been so severe, it was beginning to affect his organs.

*Nicky had to be hospitalized for about a month in March of 2018 due to an unknown illness. His former houseparent, Nathan, says:

“*Nicky’s medical bill has grown yet again, as our stay has been almost a month with multiple x-rays, scopes, nebulizations, and antibiotics used to keep *Nicky going strong. If you would like to give, you can do so through this link!”

Several other children had emergencies last year as well, and SCH racked up a $25,000 bill to cover the costs. At the link above, you can donate toward these needs, which are ongoing.

Original post:

Meet sweet, 10-year-old *Nicky

He has a cute smile and the most beautiful brown eyes. *Nicky has a magical ability to draw you in with only his eyes – so expressive and gentle. *Nicky has severe cerebral palsy that keeps him from moving much, yet he is able to communicate very well. But none of these things take away from his gentle spirit, or make him any less worthy of love. He has a great sense of humor, enjoys listening to music, looking at car magazines, and loves to be in the middle of the action!

Although he cannot sit independently without the use of his wheelchair, he likes to go out and enjoy the sun and breeze – it always puts him in a peaceful, calm state. What a special kid! I would be so honored to meet *Nicky some day.

Are you one of *Nicky’s sponsors?

Just think of everything sponsorship goes toward – physiotherapy, food, safe water, a place to sleep and people who care for *Nicky, and so much more. Please consider helping this amazing boy continue to thrive. He is so worth it.

Spread the word, sponsor a child.

An important part of SCH’s work is YOU! SCH relies on donations to keep running. Donation opportunities include child sponsors at any cost per month, from as low as $25/month. Sponsorship usually costs between $300 and $500 per child, depending on complexity of needs and in which city they live (Ongole or Hyderabad).

You can sponsor any child who needs additional funding at SCH by using the resources found here. Use these resources to get involved in other ways, such as becoming an advocate or volunteering. You can also become a medical sponsor (ideal for large groups or organizations who wish to support SCH) and donate toward monthly emergency medical expenses; or an educational sponsor and donate toward a specific on-site school. Learn about other ways to give charitably to SCH here, and check back often for additional opportunities. You can send gifts via Amazon India, make a one-time, general donation, pray if that is your calling, or volunteer at home or in India yourself.

*A note about names: SCH uses online nicknames for the children in order to protect their identity, per Indian government guidelines which state that children in care may not have identifying photos of them on the internet, as well as no identifying information such as birth name, place of origin, etc.
