105 in 105, day 58: Angel!

PD: A girl stands against a white wall, wearing a traditional Indian sari that is hot pink, blue, & gold w/ paisley accents & sparkly glitter. Her hands are at her sides, wearing blue bangles.

Update 2017: *Angel has been adopted!

Update 2015: *Angel is now living with a foster mom and foster siblings. She attends mainstream playschool. She walks independently and is very talkative.

Original post:

Today’s child is *Angel!  She is soooo squishy and adorable-looking. ^_^  I fell in love with her right away! *Angel came to SCH with a diagnosis of an undetermined ‘spinal problem’, which was claimed to never allow her to walk. Well, guess what, she’s walking  – and her ayahs can’t find any special needs at all! A misdiagnosis was all that kept this beautiful child from a healthy, happy life.

When she came to SCH last year (2011), she was very weak – oh, how she has blossomed! This 2 year old is now VERY mobile and loves playing with her brothers and sisters, chasing them around and having a great time. She loves to be held and will cuddle with you (if she knows you) all day, if you’d let her! She tends to be a little shy and reserved around strangers, but once she gets to know you, you’re in for many many cuddle sessions. *Angel has an infectious giggle! Can’t wait to see where *Angel’s potential takes her – and she has a lot of potential. I see this little one attending school in a few years and always enjoying life to its fullest.

The funds from her sponsorship go toward her healthy food and clean water, the love and care she receives from her round the clock ayahs and caregivers, medicine and therapy should she ever need it, and so much more!

From her sponsorship page:

Name: Angel

Age: 2

Birth Date: June 2010

Date to SCH: September 2011

Other Details About Me: I was brought to SCH with a diagnosed “spinal problem”. With time, and love, and high quality care, none of my caregivers can determine an issue at all!  With continuous loving care, people talk about what a bright future I can have.

An important part of SCH’s work is YOU! SCH relies on donations to keep running. Donation opportunities include child sponsors at any cost per month, from as low as $25/month. Sponsorship usually costs between $300 and $500 per child, depending on complexity of needs and which city they live in (Ongole or Hyderabad).

You can sponsor any child who needs additional funding at SCH by using the resources found here. Use these resources to get involved in other ways, such as becoming an advocate or volunteering. You can also become a medical sponsor (ideal for large groups or organizations who wish to support SCH) and donate toward monthly emergency medical expenses; or an educational sponsor and donate toward a specific on-site school. Learn about other ways to give charitably to SCH here, and check back often for additional opportunities.

*A note about names: SCH uses online nicknames for the children in order to protect their identity, per Indian governmental guidelines which state that children in care may not have identifying photos of them on the internet, as well as no identifying information such as birth name, place of origin, etc.

You can also send gifts via Amazon India, make a one-time, general donation, pray if that is your calling, or volunteer at home or in India yourself by using these resources!

PD: the SCH logo – black text reads ‘sch’; red text below reads ‘sarah’s covenant homes’; heart-shaped flowers bloom from the name.
